Locorotondo

When the Murge degrades, on the top of a small hill between the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, surrounded by small heights is Locorotondo. You will reach it along a gently wavy road and skirted by olive groves and vineyards.

We are in the heart of the Itria Valley, Valle which owes its name to the Madonna d’Odegitria, the Madonna indicating life.
The city, visible from the whole valley, is recognized for the typical pitched roofs of the houses and for the dome and the bell tower of the church of San Giorgio, which stand up high among the houses of the village.

The village is a fascinating tangles of streets that open in open spaces and internal courtyards, marked by the candor of the white houses of lime and colored by the small balconies full of flowers.
In this intertwining of roads it is very easy to find the Mother Church, just look up and follow the bell tower until you reach the grandiose facade of neocinqucently taste with the large 35 -meter high dome.
Inside you can admire a precious figurative, Renaissance and Baroque equipment, coming from a previous church.
Pause inside the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament to admire the representation of the last supper and the beautiful Baroque altar and then go inside the sacristy to admire the precious 18th century canvases, a beautiful Baroque sink and wooden busts. Before leaving the church, stop to admire the baptistery in polychrome marble and the 13 paintings placed along the aisles.
Next to the Mother Church is the Annunziata church which is worth visiting to see the wooden and papier-mâché statues that are preserved, the oldest are that of the Annunziata, the Addolorata and the six Mysteries of the Passion of Christ.

Leaving the church we walk along via Dura and then via Aprile to enter the oldest part of the historic center, and after a pleasant stop in Piazzetta Bellavista, to enjoy the splendid panorama of the Itria Valley, we can reach via Cavour to visit the Church of the Madonna of the Greek.
As you enter the church, linger over the beautiful, richly decorated capitals and the Polyptych of the central altar dedicated to the Madonna delle Rose.
From the Church of the Madonna della Greca you can easily reach the Church of San Rocco which houses a canvas depicting San Rocco from 1854, an eighteenth-century canvas of San Francesco and a wooden statue of San Rocco from 1792.

If after so much touring you feel like a gourmet break, you can take advantage of the many bars and restaurants along the streets of the village. By tasting the traditional flavors and local products you will appreciate even more this beautiful area.

After a good lunch, the best thing is to walk in the open air, possibly enjoying a beautiful panorama and this is what you will find when you reach the Della Serra hill. In this beautiful area you can visit the typical Jazzélere, characteristic elements of the area used for sheep breeding and the beautiful farms where you will find warm hospitality, if you want to spend a night in an enchanting area.
