The Itria Valley is that part of the Apulian territory, located between Bari and the provinces of Brindisi and Taranto and coincides with the southern area of \u200b\u200bthe Murge plateau which extends between Locorotondo, Cisternino and Martina Franca.
The Itria Valley is known not only for the characteristic trulli declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, but also for the best white wines of Puglia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bianco d'Alessano and Verdeca are the most common white grape varieties and give rise to fragrant and fresh wines such as Locorotondo Doc and Martina Doc.
Not far away we find the \"white city\" Ostuni, with its terraced gardens, its system of historic farms and farms where another famous Doc is produced that uses the Ottavianello, Impigno and Francavidda vines, rare but fortunately recovered native vines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bassa Murgia maintains its vocation for red wines intact with the DOC Gioia del Colle wine, son of Primitivo.
A novelty in recent years is the Minutolo grape obtained after careful studies and selections to be used in white muscatels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aleatico di Puglia<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This DOC wine covers the entire regional territory.
It is a sweet tasting wine made from Aleatico grape (minimum 85%), with the possible addition of Negroamaro, Malvasia Nera and Primitivo.
It is necessary an aging for three years in order to obtain the recognition as Reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Locorotondo<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The production area of this white wine refers to the municipalities of: Locorotondo, Fasano and part of Cisternino.
It contains Verdeca (50-60%), Biano d\u2019Alessano (35-50%), with possible addition of Malavasia Toscana, Bombino bianco and Fiano (5%).
Greenish in colour with straw-yellow hues, it is dry and pleasant to the palate and accompanies many types of appetizers.
This wine is also present in the sparkling version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martina franca<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The production area of this wine covers the following municipalities: Martina Franca, Crispiano, Alberobello, Ceglie Messapico and Ostuni.
The \u201cMartina Franca DOC wine\u201d contains: Verdeca (50-65%), Bianco d\u2019Alessano (35-50%), with possible addition of Malvasia Toscana, Bombino bianco and Fiano (maximum 5%).
Greenish in colour with straw-yellow hues, it is dry and pleasant to the palate and accompanies appetizers and light dishes.
The sparkling version is also present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ostuni<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The production area of this wine encloses the following municipalities: Ostuni, Carovigno, San Vito dei Normanni, San Michele Salentino and part of Latiano, Ceglie Messapico and Brindisi.
The different kinds of wine produced are : \u201cOstuni bianco doc\u201d with addition of the following grape varieties: Impigno (50-85%), Francavidda (10-15%) with possible addition of Bianco d\u2019Alessano and Verdeca (maximum10%) and \u201cOstuni Ottavianello doc\u201d that contains Ottavianello with possible addition of Negroamaro, Malvasia nera, Notar Domenico and Sussumaniello (maximum 15%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valle D\u2019Itria<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cIGT Puglia\u201d designation is reserved for the following wines: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • White and sparkling white wine.<\/li>
  • Red, Novello and sparkling red wine<\/li>
  • Ros\u00e9 and sparkling ros\u00e9 wine<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    IGT \u201cPuglia\u201d white, red and ros\u00e9 wines must be obtained from grapes that originate from a mixture of grape varieties; specifically from some grape varieties that have already been authorized and recommended by all provinces of Puglia (except Montepulciano and Ottavianello) with berries of their corresponding colour.
    The IGT Puglia denomination refers to wines whose grapes originate from a mixture of grape varieties, with at least 85% of their corresponding grape variety: Aleatico, Aglianico, Bombino nero, Bombino bianco, Falanghina, Fiano, Greco, Malvasia bianca, Malvasia nera, Uva di Troia, Moscato bianco, Moscatello, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot bianco, Pinot nero, Riesling, Sauvignon, Primitivo, Negroamaro, Verdeca, Bianco d\u2019Alessano, Pampanuto, Trebbiano, Sangiovese.

    The \u201cIGT Valle d\u2019Itria\u201d denomination is reserved for the following wines: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Ros\u00e9 and sparkling ros\u00e9 wine.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      White IGT Valle d\u2019Itria wines must be obtained from grapes that originate from some grape varieties that have already been authorized and recommended by the following provinces: Bari, Brindisi and Taranto.
      \u201cIGT Valle d\u2019Itria red\u201d wines must be obtained from grapes that originate from Negroamaro and\/or Primitivo grape variety.
      With a maximum percentage of 50% it is possible to include grapes of some grape varieties with black berries that have already been authorized and recommended by the Provinces of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto.
      The IGT \u201cValle d\u2019Itria\u201d white wine designation is reserved for wines whose grapes originate from the following grape varieties: Verdeca, Bianco d\u2019Alessano, Fiano, Malvasia, Moscato bianco, Moscatello selvatico, Pinot bianco, Sauvignon, Trebbiano, Chardonnay, Impigno and Bombino bianco (minimum l\u201985%).
      The IGT \u201cValle d\u2019Itria\u201d red wine designation is reserved to wines whose grapes originate from the following grape varieties: Negroamaro, Primitivo, Malvasia nera, Sangiovese, Cabaret Sauvignon, Aleatico and Pinot nero (minimum 85%).
      The IGT \u201cValle d\u2019Itria\u201d designation is reserved for wines whose grapes originate from the following grape varieties: Negroamaro, Primitivo, Malvasia nera, Sangiovese and Pinot (minimum 85%).
      With a maximum percentage of 15% it is possible to include grapes of some grape varieties with berries of their corresponding colour that have already been authorized and recommended by the Provinces of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto.
