Rivera

It was the early 1900s when Giuseppe de Corato acquired the huge Rivera estate in the countryside of Andria, restoring it to grow vines, olive trees and wheat.

Here, in 1950, his son Sebastiano founded Cantine Rivera with the specific intention of enhancing the enormous wine-growing potential of the area surrounding Castel del Monte. The old winery and the vineyards were renovated and quality wines began to be produced using the most advanced techniques of the time.

Cantine Rivera's quality project starts from the careful management of 95 hectares of vineyards, converted to the cordon-trained system, with a density of about 4,800 low-production vines per hectare.

These vineyards are divided into three main bodies. The first two, Torre di Bocca and Coppa, are located between 200 and 220 meters above sea level on deep tufa-limestone soils; mainly red grape varieties are grown there.

The third body, Lama di Corvo, lies on the calcareous rock soil of the Murgia hills between 320 and 350 meters, the most suitable altitude for the good ripening of the white grape varieties. The remaining grape need is met by a few trusted local growers.
